How much does it cost to move house in Norfolk? With the firms we use, a straightforward one-bed local move starts from £180, and a two-bed or a typical three-bed done in a day is usually around £480. A bigger three-bed that needs two vans and three men runs closer to £900.
That's a long way under what most people expect. Typical Norfolk prices from published guides put a three-bed removal at around £900 to £1,500, and that's before any packing. So here are our real numbers, the published ones next to them, and what actually pushes a price up or down.
What it costs to move house in Norfolk: our typical prices
These are typical fixed prices from the vetted Norfolk firms we match you with. They aren't hourly rates, and they aren't a promise. The firm's quote for your move is the price.
| Move | Typically with us | Typical Norfolk prices from published guides | |---|---|---| | One-bed, local | From £180 (one man and van) | Around £500 to £750 | | Two-bed, local | Around £480 (two men, full day) | Around £700 to £1,000 | | Three-bed, normal amount, done in a day | Around £480 | Around £900 to £1,500 | | Bigger three-bed (two vans, three men) | Around £900 | Around £900 to £1,500 | | Two-bed to London, already packed | Around £700 | Around £1,000 to £1,500 for a long-distance two-bed |
The published figures come from Norfolk and Norwich removal guides and Checkatrade, gathered in September 2026. They're removal only, with no packing. They're not our quotes.
If you only need help for part of the day, one man and van for a half day (three to four hours) is around £210. Set that against the real cost of hiring a van yourself. And if it's one thing, not a house, single item delivery is £60 to £70. A sofa priced from photos is usually £40 to £50.
Why our prices sit under the average
Billy, who set this up, used to run his own removals firm. He's chosen to go after the price-conscious end of the market on purpose. Lots of everyday moves at a fair price, rather than a few at a big one.
Cheap only works if it isn't a cowboy job, though. So every firm is checked before it gets work from us: insurance verified with the insurer, paperwork and reviews checked, and a look at the vans where it's warranted. Every finished job is rated, and firms that slip lose the work.
You get one fixed price from the firm. We add nothing on top. We're paid a fee by the firm, and only on completed work.
One customer put it better than we could: "We got a whole house move for hundreds less than any other company." Another wrote: "Excellent rates, and an excellent service."
What moves the price up or down
Bedrooms are a rough guide. The real price comes from your stuff and your street. Our 3 bed house removals cost breakdown goes into this in more detail, but here's the short version.
How much you've got
Volume decides how many people and vans the job needs. That's the difference between around £480 and around £900 for a three-bed. A tidy three-bed fits a one-day, two-man job. A full one with a loft and a garage may not.
Packing
If you'd like the firm to pack for you, that adds roughly £400 to £600 on a three-bed house. It's the biggest single extra, and the easiest one to do yourself if you've got the time.
Stairs, long carries and access
Some firms charge extra for stairs or long carries. Others don't. More on that in cheap removals without the cowboy risk. Norfolk throws up plenty of both. Victorian terrace stairs in Norwich often won't turn a sofa. Listed buildings round the Mere in Diss have low doorways and winding stairs. Single-track village lanes make the size of the van the first question, before price.
We tend to use firms that don't charge extra for awkward access or distance. If a firm does, it'll be in your one fixed price, not added on the day.
Parking
Much of Norwich's NR2 is residents' permit parking, so bay suspensions are arranged with the council where needed. Dereham's Market Place streets are narrow and busy on market mornings. Parking is the firm's job to sort, but if you know of a permit rule on your street, tell us up front.
Distance and the day
Norfolk is big and mostly rural. A crew based on the wrong side of the county loses an hour before it lifts anything. Between June and September, coast traffic can turn a 40-minute run into 90 minutes. That's one reason we match you with a firm near you.
Weekend, Friday and busy-period surcharges aren't usual, but they depend on the firm. Completion Fridays book up first, so if you've got a choice of day, it's worth asking.
How much should you budget for a move?
To budget for a move in Norfolk, allow from £180 for a one-bed and around £480 for a typical three-bed with the firms we use. Start with your bedroom count from the table, then add for what applies to you: packing, lots of stairs, a big garden shed, a piano. A local piano move is typically around £400. If you need storage between houses, it starts from £30 a week rurally and can double in the city. Each leg in and out is priced as its own move.
Then get a real price. Send photos or a video of the rooms. It makes the quote quicker and stops the guesswork, and small items get priced from photos straight away. If you just need a van and a pair of hands, our man and van service is the place to start.
Your number goes to one firm, only after you say yes. It's never sold or shared, so there's no week of callbacks from firms you've never heard of.
Questions people ask
What is the most expensive part of moving?
For the removal itself, it's usually volume: how many people and vans the job needs. Packing is the next biggest extra. If you're buying, solicitors and stamp duty are separate costs that we don't handle.
How do you calculate how much it will cost to move?
A fair price comes from what's going, where it's going, and how easy each end is to get in and out of. That's why we ask for photos rather than just a bedroom count. The firm then gives you one fixed price for the job, not an hourly rate.
How much does a removal company charge?
A removal company we use will typically charge around £480 for a three-bed done in a day, while published Norfolk guides say around £900 to £1,500. See all our house removals details, or the full list of moving services we arrange.
