Our checks

Checked properly before we send anyone to your door.

Anyone can put a logo on a van. What we check is duller and harder to fake: whether the insurance is real, who is actually employed, and what previous customers say once the van has gone. Firms that don't hold up don't get the work.

  1. Insurance and documents verified

Goods in transit and public liability, checked against the policy rather than the certificate they emailed us, along with the paperwork behind the business. A lapsed policy is the single most common thing we find.

  2. Reviews and trading history read properly

What previous customers said once the van had gone, and how the firm answered when a job went wrong. A pattern of the same complaint tells you more than any sales call.

  3. An in-person assessment where it's warranted

Not every firm needs one, and we don't pretend otherwise. Where it is warranted, Billy goes and looks: the state of the vans, whether there are blankets and straps or a pile of old duvets, whether the place is run or just rented.

  4. Employed crews, named on the job sheet

Not day labour picked up on the morning. The crew on your move works for the firm, has done the training, and can be held to it afterwards.

  5. A review after every move we place

We ask you afterwards, every time, and we read the answers. A firm that starts slipping loses work quickly — that's the only enforcement that actually works.

  6. A cap on how many firms we take per area

If we signed everyone, we'd be a directory. Capping it means every firm gets real work, and we know each of them well enough to match properly.

What gets a firm taken off

  • A price that changes on the driveway.
  • Insurance allowed to lapse without telling us.
  • Subcontracting the job to someone we've never met.
  • Handling a breakage badly — arguing rather than sorting it.
  • Turning up late twice and calling it traffic.

What we can't promise

  • That nothing will ever get chipped. Furniture and doorframes are what they are.
  • That we'll always be the cheapest quote you get. We won't be.
  • That we can cover every street in the country properly. Where we can't, we say so.

What we do promise is that when something goes wrong you'll get us on the phone, and we'll deal with it rather than forward the email.

Checked already, so you don't have to

Tell us about the move and we'll match you to one firm that's been through the lot.
